Here is another tutorial video. It shows how easy it is to get the Photon socket-server SDK for Unity 3D running. Just download it from our website, unzip the files, edit the Unity Scene file (to change the server to your local IP) and it runs. And all it takes is just about 2 minutes. You do need to have the Photon Server installed locally, of course. How to do this, our How to Install Photon video will show you – in even less time.

Downloading, installing and starting Photon is a matter of just a few minutes as you can see in this clip.
You will see, first steps are incredibly easy and will take only about two minutes to run your own socket-server!

Many more videos are to follow – in the meantime, don’t hesitate to let us know what you think.

Paradise Paintball

Paradise Paintball

In March we mentioned that we had developed an SDK for Unity3D, so that games using the new 3d engine could integrate our multiplayer technology seamlessly.

Shortly after that, when we released our streamlined product “Photon“, game developer  Cmune chose Photon (its Unity SDK) for their “Paradise Paintball” game. Reworking the multiplayer functionality from a prior multiplayer engine, Paradise Paintball is now ready and running on Photon. It’s available as facebook application, with some further informations and great ratings. You can also play it online directly in your brower for free on the Cmune website.

Check out Paradise Paintball on the Cmune website.

Summer Brain Drain

fg

hot hot hot

It’s hot. Not something friendly like sunny or warm. It’s hot. Think of white hot charcoal, a furnace, think of burning air and lava streams. This is what it feels like. Good thing we have a new coffee machine. Not. We’d need a chest freezer with crushed ice now. So this is summer. We’re not used to these kind of temperatures in Hamburg. Usually good weather in Hamburg is when the rain falls vertically. Interesting trivia: Hamburg lies to the north of London (as far as latitude is concerned) and has more rainfall, too. But: the city is full of canals and has more bridges than Venice (although there aren’t any places  to sit in the shadow at the canals anywhere). It’s still the nicest city and Game Developer Capital of Germany. It’s just … hot!

USA Today logoWe found this article on USA Today, featuring the World Golf Tour game and the fact that WGT is working together with USGA to present the virtual championship on the Bethpage Black Course. “World Golf Tour provides the most realistic simulation of golf courses I have ever seen online,” PGA Tour veteran Ryuji Imada said. “The photographs of the courses are stunning and the game helps players experience the same type of course management decisions I am faced with every weekend on Tour.”
